The summary
Athletes who place in the top 48 in their respective event earn a spot in the Western Regionals, with the top 24 relay times as well. Athletes with the top 12 times/scores and top 12 relay teams at East and West regional venues will qualify for the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oregon (June 8-11).
The decathlon and the heptathlon are not contested at the regionals. Instead, the nation’s top 24 decathlon and heptathlon scores automatically earn a spot on the NCAA Championship site.
In the polls
The Women’s Tech enters week nine of the outdoor season ranked No. 2. That matches their best mark of the season (week one) and highest in program history. The men, meanwhile, also moved up a spot, climbing to No. 6.
Entrances on the bridge
The Tech women lead the west region and country with 36 entries, while the men have 27 pencil entries. Not included in this list is callie jones, who automatically clinched her ticket to the NCAA championships as she is fifth in points (5,864) in the heptathlon. She will, however, compete in the high jump, long jump and javelin this week.
