Nigeria: representatives call on government to include road connecting Kwara and Kogi in 2022 budget
The Chamber observed that the state of the road provides an environment conducive to armed robbers and kidnappers.
The House of Representatives called on the federal government to include the reconstruction of the road connecting Kwara state and Kogi state in the 2022 budget.
President Muhammadu Buhari is due to present the 2022 draft budget to the joint session of the National Assembly on Thursday.
The appeal followed the adoption of a motion put forward by Tunji Olawuyi (APC, Kwara) on Tuesday on the House floor.
Tunji, in his motion, called the Ajasse-Omu-Aran-Kabba road deplorable, noting that the Ministry of Works and Housing has not done any meaningful work on the road for years.
The lawmaker, who represents the Ekiti / Isin / Irepodun / Oke-Ero federal constituency of Kwara state, said major roads connecting the south to the north have been neglected over the past two years.
He said the state of the road “provides a conducive environment for armed thieves and kidnappers.”
Mr Olawuyi said most commuters from Kwara state to Abuja had to take the longer Ekiti route.
Therefore, the Chamber urged the Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, to start the process of dualizing the road.
The green chamber also asked the minister to consider the option of concrete.
He also asked the finance and credit committees to ensure compliance.
