Prophet’s Note: UP Police claim to have new leads linking violence to Kanpur, Prayagraj

Police say they have found new leads in the ongoing investigation, indicating there is a link between the violence in Kanpur and Prayagraj which took place on June 3 and 10 during the remarks against Prophet Muhammad by former BJP spokesperson.

The investigation revealed Prayagraj-based activist Javed Mohammad was in regular contact with a man from the Yateemkhana area of Kanpur, where the violence first erupted, police officials said.

Investigation is ongoing to determine if the alleged conspirators behind the violence in Kanpur and Prayagraj were the same. In Prayagraj, violence erupted in Kareli and Khuldabad areas on June 10.

“We reviewed Javed’s mobile phone call records and found that he was in regular contact with a Kanpur-based man between June 3 and June 10. The duration of calls from both increased after June 3. said Chief Superintendent of Prayagraj Police (SSP) Ajay Kumar.

They spoke for 10 to 15 minutes regularly after June 3, he said, citing the details of the call.

The SSP, however, declined to release details about the Kanpur-based man, adding that he lives in the Yateemkhana area where the violence erupted on June 3.

Action will be taken based on the evidence, he added.
