Swimming and diving place second at Boston College Invitational

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. The University of Massachusetts swim and dive team clinched two second-place finishes in team scoring at the Boston College Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The Minutewomen scored 703.5 points to take second place while the Minutemen finished second on the team with 616.5 points.

Event Wins
Massachusetts picked up six individual wins on the afternoon, led by four first-place finishes for the Minutewomen. Beatrice Olivieri won the fastest heat in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:54.95 for the first individual victory of the day. Megan Mitchell led three Minutewomen into the top five of the 100 Back with a best time of 57.69 while Bri Williams and Caroline Mahony completes the top five. Mahoney won the 100 freestyle later in the day clocking 53.15.

Emerson Kieffer recorded two individual top-two finishes, including first in swimming in 1:43.26 in the 200 butterfly. Kiefer added a second-place finish in the 500 free with a time of 4:43.37 as part of three Minutemen in the top four as Wilson Dubois and John Montori took third and fourth place respectively. Jamie MacDonald earned the final individual victory of the day in the 200 butterfly with a winning run of 1:54.02.

200 fly sweep
The Minutewomen swept the top three spots in the 200 Fly led by a winning run of 2:06.65 by Summer drill. Beatrice Olivieri finished second while Anna Kwon completed the first three.

Superior finishes
The UMass women added several top-three finishes during the day, including two top-three swimmers in the 500 freestyle led by second-place finisher Olivieri in 5:13.68 with Bella Snyder third at 5:14.02. Lauren Stott clocked a second run of 2:07.31 in the 200m backstroke while Summer drill finished in the top three in the 100 butterfly with a time of 58.18 to take third place.

End the day with a victory
The Minutemen and Minutewomen finished the encounter with wins in the 200 freestyle relay. McKenna Johnson, Ashley Calderon, Caroline Mahonyand Maggie Desmond clocked 1:38.74 to win the 200 freestyle relay for the Minutewomen. Grant Beebe, Joe Tonna, Samy Quiggand John Montori combined for a winning run of 1:25.07 for the Minutemen.

Dive results

Andre Bell led a pair of Minutemen to the top three spots in the 1-metre dive with a score of 269.55 to take second place while Tommy Cotner finished third. Bell also posted the second-highest score from the 3-metre dive at 260.30 with Cotner in fourth.

Emma Petrovich led the Minutewomen divers that day with two second-place finishes. Petrovich led three divers into the top five in the 1-metre dive with a score of 251.10 with Shreeya Sinha and Salem Howe completing the top five. Petrovich also took second in the 3m dive and Howes recorded another top five.
